Jake Tapper notes that aides found it hard to notice Biden’s decline since he consistently appeared to have cognitive challenges.

Concerns About Biden’s Cognitive Health Discussed

On a recent podcast, CNN anchor Jake Tapper mentioned that an aide to former President Joe Biden expressed uncertainty about whether Biden’s cognitive abilities are declining, given his long history of apparent lapses in memory and judgment.

During the podcast, which aired on Wednesday, Tapper and Axios reporter Alex Thompson shared insights from a previous discussion. They noted that the aide felt it was challenging to determine if Biden’s frequent slips were getting worse over time, particularly since he has made mistakes even in his youth.

One of Tapper’s comments suggested that he has known Biden since the 1980s and described him as someone who often appears easily disappointed and has a long history of making inappropriate statements.

Host Sam Harris also made the rounds with CNN anchors, bringing up some peculiar behaviors associated with Biden, such as the infamous comments about “the smell of people’s hair.” Harris indicated that these peculiarities have been noticeable for years, especially as Biden became more prominent in the public eye between 2019 and 2020.

Biden’s history of gaffes stretches back to his time as a Democratic vice presidential candidate. A report from September 2008 highlighted that he frequently faced embarrassment on the campaign trail due to his blunders.

Former Obama strategist David Axelrod even pointed out in a 2019 tweet that while Biden’s gaffes were often seen as harmless, they could potentially damage his reputation, especially after he misstated his opposition to the Iraq War.

Biden has also drawn criticism for racially insensitive remarks in the past. In 2006, he claimed that to access certain Delaware establishments, Americans needed “at least a slight Indian accent,” referencing the growing Indian-American population in the state.

Don’t forget his past comments during the 2008 campaign, where he referred to Barack Obama as “clean” and “good-looking,” which sparked further concerns regarding racial insensitivity.

Recently, Biden’s office revealed that he has been diagnosed with severe prostate cancer. This follows his previous medical history, which includes surgeries for a cerebral aneurysm and a pulmonary embolism back in 1988.
