Jalen Brunson shares insights on the Knicks’ ‘players-only meeting’

Jalen Brunson shares insights on the Knicks' 'players-only meeting'

Knicks’ Recent Success and Accountability Discussions

In a recent turn of events, the New York Knicks have experienced a winning streak, taking six victories in a row and shaking off prior struggles. This shift reportedly follows a brief discussion among the team, catalyzed by Jalen Brunson, about fostering accountability among teammates.

However, Brunson clarified that he only shared a few thoughts after a tough loss to the Mavericks, indicating that he didn’t actually call a team meeting. “I just expressed my opinion after the game against Dallas,” Brunson remarked. “We meet after the game. I said something before the coach came in. That’s it,” he added.

This isn’t the first time the Knicks have found themselves having similar discussions. After a disappointing defeat against Detroit on January 5, the team lost nine of their last eleven games before they reportedly had a “players-only meeting,” which led to a resurgence in their defensive play.

Josh Hart also echoed Brunson’s sentiment, asserting that no formal meeting took place. “We talked, but it wasn’t like…something. It dragged on,” Hart explained. “We didn’t have a meeting just for the players.”

On a personal note, Brunson, who is currently tied for the lead in the Eastern Conference’s scoring chart, has demonstrated a commitment to the team’s success. “That’s what I’ve always done,” he said, emphasizing the importance of momentum in the game. He noted how certain plays—like drawing an offensive foul—can significantly influence a game’s outcome.

Hart reflected on Brunson’s time at Villanova, sharing that he faced similar criticisms, though it was common for players there. Yet, he acknowledged the challenges that come with absorbing contact on defense. “Obviously we have to be very cognizant of where we need to be defensively,” he noted, recognizing that it requires both skill and intelligence to effectively manage such situations.
