Scott Caan was warned about Hollywood by his father, James Caan, before pursuing a career in show business.
Scott, 47, spoke to FOX News Digital about his relationship with his Academy Award-winning father during the 2024 FOX Spring Preview for Season 2 of FOX’s Alert: Missing Persons Unit.
Scott says he never thought he would become an actor.
“Not until I was in my late teens, around 18 or 19,” he said. “The old man told me this business was ridiculous because I was always an athlete. [to] Please stay away from there. ”

Scott didn’t always dream of becoming an actor.
“I was thinking of all sorts of creative ideas because I was willing to do anything to avoid going to school. Anything to go to college without finishing high school,” he recalled. “I was lucky in a way that I met the director and somehow ended up on set.”
Regarding his famous father’s professional advice, Scott said: “What’s funny is he was quite contradictory. He used to say, ‘Don’t take it too seriously,’ but on the other hand, he said, ‘Don’t take it too seriously.’ “He took it very seriously. He always just said, ‘Look, look.’ , “Work is not your life”, I think this is a good lesson.
“You have to be passionate about what you do and love what you do, but at the same time, it can’t be the most important thing, because that will kill you. ”
James Caan became famous for his role as Sonny Corleone in The Godfather. He was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for this role. James passed away in 2022 at the age of 82 from a heart attack.

Scott is one of James’ five children. The late actor was also the father of James, Jacob, Alexander, and Tara.

Khan appears as Jason Grant on FOX’s “Alert: Missing Persons” Season 2, which began airing on Tuesday.
According to the show’s synopsis, “Each episode features a heart-pounding, life-or-death search for a missing person led by Detectives Jason Grant and Nikki Batista.” “Jason and Nikki have a very personal connection to these cases, as they were once married and their own young son went missing and was never found.
“The emotional strain of their son’s disappearance has destroyed their marriage, but their bond remains as they move on.”

The show is set in the Philadelphia Police Department’s missing persons unit and shows how every moment counts when searching for a missing person.
He told Fox News Digital that filming this season was “a tough whole season.”
“You’re trying to figure out whether the child is your child, whether it’s the child you adopted, but you don’t even know whether it’s actually your child. It was cruel to repeat it over and over again,” he said of the new season. “It was nonstop, mentally draining, and I felt like I was going crazy at times.

“That season was a lot harder. I think it was great and I think we did a good job, but I’m glad that that section of the show is over because it’s crazy to relive it for 10 episodes. .”

The “Hawaii Five-O” actor is also a father himself. Scott and his partner, Casey Bixby, welcomed their daughter, Josie, in 2014. For Khan, playing James Grant on Alert allowed him to reflect on his own approach to parenting.

“You can’t hover over the kids. You have to make them understand,” he said. “I mean, I feel like I’ve learned the most about living on my own. You’re just trying to teach them to be smart and good people and stay out of trouble if possible.” But they’re going to get into trouble. You can’t do that, like, hover over the kids.”
