James Carville holds far-left Democrats responsible for aiding Trump in 2016

Carville forecasts that Trump will step down after the midterms and receive a pardon from Vance.

James Carville Critiques Rising Democratic Socialism

On Friday, veteran Democratic strategist James Carville expressed strong concerns about the growth of democratic socialism within the party. He warned that figures like Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) could ultimately enable the ascent of politicians similar to President Donald Trump.

Carville, who has previously pointed fingers at far-left ideologies for election losses, is sounding the alarm again, particularly as a new wave of Democratic Socialists is securing victories in primaries across traditionally Democratic regions. He suggested that a division within the party might be necessary to curb their influence.

“I think the most devastating political event of this century was the 2016 election,” Carville remarked. “How did Trump win? I’ll tell you how: because Donald Trump became president because of Bernie Sanders. Can you hear me? Listen, I’m telling the truth,” he continued. He argued that Sanders stole votes from Hillary Clinton, claiming he painted the Democratic Party as a corporatist entity and suggested there was little distinction between establishment Democrats and Republicans.

Carville further accused the far-left of undermining Democratic candidates during elections, saying, “And it comes down to large-scale crime. Our debt is trillions of dollars. We have a hell of a war ahead of us.” He criticized the rhetoric of far-left Democrats who blame “corporate Democrats” for these issues.

“These people are really stupid. I don’t know what to say,” he continued. Carville questioned whether the far-left’s solutions involved defeating Republicans or instead included targeting Democrats themselves. “No! You’re part of the problem too, because you’re a fool believing that nonsense floating around on the left,” he added.

He expressed concern that many Democrats seem more focused on looking ‘cool’ rather than actually winning elections, warning that this mindset will only harm the country. “You will drag the country into a ditch,” he cautioned.

Carville concluded with a reflection on the political landscape, noting a significant shift among many Democrats in recent years. “For some reason, among Democrats, something became more important than winning elections,” he said, emphasizing the detrimental impact of this change.

He defined himself as a proud liberal, but not a leftist, and placed responsibility for the current state of affairs squarely on the left wing of the Democratic Party.

Fox News Digital sought comment from Sanders, but he did not respond immediately.
