Longtime Democratic strategist James Kerrville questioned Wednesday whether Americans should wait until President Donald Trump becomes “Hitler” before taking action against his administration.
A former adviser to President Bill Clinton made a comment on the latest episode of the Political War Room podcast, entitled “Trump is truly like Hitler.”
Kerrville nurtured a recent commentary from CNN host Michael Smerconish, claiming that while people might hate Trump, he is not Hitler and should not be treated that way.
The Democratic strategist pushed back Smerconish’s claims and rhetorically asked, “Are you waiting until he becomes Hitler?”
Does Kerrville say, “At what point is this guy a threat?” ” he recommended that CNN hosts bring in historians like Anne Applebaum and Timothy Snyder to provide historical context when discussing topics like authoritarianism.
Kerrville also referenced comedian Larry David’s recent satirical guest essay in The New York Times.
Instilling Bill Mah’s visit to the White House, the film highlights that some enemies view Trump as a Hitler-like figure.
After briefly mentioning David’s essay, Kerrville summoned the words of Bernie Fife, the fictional character from “Andy Griffith Shaw,” explaining what he needs to do about Trump.
“I’m going to quote Great Bernie Fife: ‘Nip it, crush it into the buds,’ Kerrville said. “That’s what I say. Just pinch it and crush it into the bud. Don’t wait.”
