James Carville states that Democrats shouldn’t lie like ‘Republicans do’.

On a recent podcast, Democratic strategist James Kerrville didn’t hold back his frustrations about the current state of his party. He argued that while Republicans often get away with dishonesty, Democrats face higher expectations for honesty. It’s, well, kind of frustrating. Speaking to journalist Ryan Liza, he shared, “People ask me all the time, ‘James, why can’t we do things like Republicans do? Our supporters just won’t back it!’” He continued, “If I were to lie, you’d be quick to say, ‘James Kerrville lost all credibility when he said X, Y, Z.’”

Kerrville, who was a key strategist for Bill Clinton’s 1992 campaign, further criticized the attitude of some Democrats. “Sure, I can spin information,” he said, “but everyone does that to some extent. Yet, I hear our own people suggesting we should lie just as much. But we really shouldn’t.”

The conversation turned serious, especially when reflecting on the historical context, such as the impeachment of President Clinton in 1998 over perjury related to his affair with Monica Lewinsky.

Lately, discussions about authenticity have come to the forefront as the 2024 election looms. Some worries have surfaced regarding President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline, leading up to the key debate against Donald Trump. Kerrville highlighted that Trump’s trade policies, especially tariffs, might be pushing other nations into close alliances with countries like China, mainly due to their uncertainty about U.S. trade direction.

Interestingly, Kerrville’s recent exchanges with David Hogg, the Democratic National Committee vice-chairman, have made headlines too. Their debate got heated, focusing on strategies for winning elections. Tensions have been brewing particularly after Hogg announced plans to invest $20 million targeting older Democrats in challenging primaries.

Recently, Kerrville has been vocal about divisions within the party regarding Biden’s candidacy. He has suggested it might be time for Biden to step back. “We’ve respected Joe Biden for years, but honestly, how much more can we take of the same old story?” he remarked thoughtfully during a January podcast. It’s a tricky situation, and many are left wondering about the future of the party.
