Cockett’s Candidacy Critiqued by James Carville
On Thursday, veteran Democratic strategist James Carville expressed his doubts about Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett’s electability, pointing out that some of her controversial remarks could be detrimental in the upcoming election.
Carville, a co-host of the “Politics War Room” podcast, has frequently criticized the Democratic Party’s messaging, suggesting that it has lost them elections in the past. He previously remarked that Crockett tends to speak more about herself than her constituents, which is, well, a notable misstep in politics.
During a recent podcast episode, co-host Al Hunt read a listener’s question about why Carville views Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico as a stronger choice than Crockett. Carville responded, “Crockett referred to Hispanic Trump supporters as having a slave mentality. That’s not exactly a smart thing to say. It’s going to work against her in the general election.”
In a December interview, Crockett compared Hispanic Trump backers concerned about immigration issues to individuals with a “slave mentality.” She later attempted to clarify those comments during a CNN interview. Carville added that mocking Governor Greg Abbott, who uses a wheelchair, is not appropriate. “It’s just wrong, honestly,” he said.
Carville went on to criticize Crockett’s intent behind her comments, suggesting they were an effort to appeal to extreme progressive views in Seattle.
He remarked on the backlash over her referring to Abbott as “Governor Hot Wheels,” noting the bipartisan disapproval this garnered.
Despite his support for Talarico, Carville insisted that he respects both candidates, saying, “I don’t think Jasmine is a bad person, but if you’re serious about winning, you need to lean towards Talarico.” He believes Talarico has a much better chance in the general election.
“If you want to win,” he emphasized, “it’s that simple. You have to support Jim Talarico.”
As of now, attempts to reach Rep. Crockett for her perspective have been made.
