James Remar Open to Returning in “And Just Like That”
James Remar, known for his role in “Dexter,” expressed a willingness to reprise his character from the “Sex and the City” spinoff “And Just Like That.” In an exclusive chat, the 71-year-old actor stated, “I’m an actor; I’m always open to possibilities.”
However, he playfully added, “But should I be naked again?” This comment hints at his memorable appearances in the original series.
Remar portrayed Richard Wright, who dated Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and broke her heart in Season 4. Describing his character, he remarked, “I’m the best boyfriend on the show.” He even shared a conversation he had with series writer/director Michael Patrick King about why their relationship ended. “I asked, ‘Why ruin a good thing?’ and he explained that introducing conflict is part of the show’s dynamic,” Remar recalled, revealing a glimpse into the creative decisions behind the scenes.
The original “Sex and the City” aired from 1998 to 2004 and followed Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) alongside her friends, navigating love and life in New York City. Currently, Cattrall has distanced herself from the spinoff, citing a desire to move on from her iconic role. Despite rumors of tension, she did make a brief cameo in Season 2, and her character reappeared through text exchanges in Season 3.
In a past interview, Cattrall expressed that she wouldn’t want to remember her character with anything but pride, yet after two films and multiple seasons, she emphasized, “I’m done.”
Remar’s future involvement in “And Just Like That” seems uncertain, especially if Richard doesn’t cross paths with anyone else pivotal to the storyline. Since his stint on “Sex and the City,” he’s appeared in various projects, including “North Shore,” “Ratatouille,” “X-Men: First Class,” and the recent “Dexter: Resurrection,” which he compares to “And Just Like That” in terms of continuing a franchise.
Concluding, he said, “If they create something really interesting, I’d certainly consider it, but it’s tough to top ‘Dexter.’”
