James Wood’s Standout Performance in Nationals’ Victory

In a recent game against the Los Angeles Angels, Washington Nationals outfielder James Wood, who has already hit 22 home runs this season, was hoping to add to that tally while at bat.

Interestingly, the Angels’ pitcher chose to walk Wood most of the time.

Wood appeared at the plate six times but was intentionally walked four—an uncommon feat not seen since Barry Bonds did it in 2004. In fact, he’s now among just a handful of players, including legends like Roger Maris and Manny Ramirez, to have received four intentional walks in a single game since at least 1955.

On a more positive note, he successfully stole two bases during the match. The Nationals ultimately edged out the Angels with a score of 7-4 after 11 innings.

Regarding Wood’s performance, he is shaping up to be one of the Nationals’ key players since joining in 2024. With impressive stats, including 31 home runs and 105 RBIs along with a .274 batting average, his performance is often compared to that of stars like Juan Soto and Bryce Harper.

“These guys are among the best in the game,” Wood commented recently. “I aim to emulate that quality. They’ve been doing it for years, and although I still have a lot to learn, it feels great to be in that company.”

Despite the win over the Angels, the Nationals’ season record moved to 35-49. The last time Washington surpassed 80 wins was back in 2019, a year they celebrated by winning the World Series.

Wood’s remarkable contribution was highlighted as he emerged as the best player for the Nationals in that game.
