Protests and Bike Rides in Portland
On Sunday, Oscar-nominated actor James Woods caused a traffic disruption on the Burnside Bridge in Portland. This happened while left-wing activists held a “die-in,” protesting against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and President Donald Trump’s approach to illegal immigration.
Woods referred to the hundreds of cyclists involved in the protests as “a mentally ill Democrat in action.”
The naked bike ride, an annual event, usually takes place around this time. However, the organizers of this spontaneous demonstration felt the need for an additional nude ride. This was in response to Trump’s comments aimed at mobilizing the National Guard to control protests. The Associated Press covered how this was viewed as a measure to quell unrest.
Portland has seen violent clashes between left-wing groups and authorities since June. Last month, Trump authorized military deployment to protect an ICE facility that faced significant threats from antifa groups.
With tensions escalating, including ongoing legal battles against Trump’s orders, Sunday’s demonstration was marked by a somewhat chaotic interaction between protesters and police. Some individuals arrived wearing no clothes at all, while others donned outfits resembling squirrels, pandas, and Teletubbies.
As the situation unfolded, Assistant Secretary of State Tricia McLaughlin stated, “President Trump and Secretary Noem are fulfilling the American people’s mission to deport individuals here illegally. Polling indicates strong support for these America First policies.” She emphasized the necessity of law and order in light of what she described as chaos stemming from open border policies under President Biden.
On the flip side, other recent polls have indicated that a large majority of American voters favor the deportation of illegal aliens implicated in crimes.
