Actress Jamie Lee Curtis recently faced criticism from some progressive circles after expressing emotional sentiments regarding the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk. In response to the backlash, she seems to be clarifying her stance, stating that she never wished for Kirk to be “happy,” and claims that anyone interpreting her words differently is simply “mistranslating” what she said.
On September 15, just days after Kirk’s death, Curtis made a guest appearance on a podcast hosted by Marc Maron, where she became quite emotional while discussing the incident.
“Even though I disagreed with nearly everything he represented, I saw him as a man of faith. I hope he felt that connection in his final moments,” the Freaky Friday star shared during the conversation.

“Despite my strong disagreement with his views, I had to acknowledge him as a father, a husband, and a man of faith. I hope whatever connection he had with God was meaningful,” she continued.
However, in a more recent interview, Curtis seems to be navigating her way through a tense political landscape, where some people celebrate those they disagree with being harmed. She firmly stated that her past remarks were “mistranslated.”
“What I said was taken out of context, making it seem like I wished him well, which was not my intent,” she remarked. “I was referring to his faith in God, not offering positivity towards him,” she clarified.
“In today’s polarized environment, it feels impossible to hold two conflicting beliefs. For instance, I can believe in Israel’s existence while also opposing the devastation in Gaza,” Curtis explained.
“If I express these conflicting ideas, I risk being attacked for holding a contradictory viewpoint,” she elaborated.
Even with the feeling of bowing to the pressures from those who celebrate violence, Curtis maintains that she shouldn’t have to watch her words carefully as a public figure.
When a reporter suggested she should be cautious due to her status, Curtis insisted there was no reason to tone down her honesty. “If I’d been careful, I wouldn’t have expressed any of these thoughts,” she asserted. “I would have just shared small talk and nothing personal. It’s essential for me to be authentic.”
