Eric Trump to Attend Metaplanet Shareholders Meeting in Tokyo
Eric Trump is set to participate in a shareholders meeting with Metaplanet, a Japanese Bitcoin finance company. This event takes place in Tokyo on Monday, marking an expansion of the Trump family’s crypto business internationally.
Appointed as an advisor to Metaplanet in March, Eric Trump steps into a company that holds over $2 billion in Bitcoin. Interestingly, attendees of this meeting had recently been part of the Bitcoin Asia Conference held in Hong Kong.
Alongside his brother Donald Trump Jr., Eric has co-founded American Bitcoin, a cryptocurrency mining operation that plans to list on Nasdaq this month. Asher Genoot, the CEO of the company—which currently owns 80% of US Bitcoin—confirmed Eric’s involvement in the Metaplanet event, as previously noted by Bloomberg.
Donald Trump, Eric’s father, has made claims about becoming the “crypto president,” expressing support for digital asset classes as a way to enhance the banking system and increase control over the US dollar.
Concerns have been raised about some of Trump’s business ventures in the crypto space, particularly as they appear to have added significantly to his wealth, benefiting from U.S. policy shifts during his presidency.
At the shareholders meeting, plans will likely be put forth to sell up to 550 million shares overseas, valued at 130.3 billion yen (approximately $884.41 million), with intentions to reinvest the revenue into acquiring more Bitcoin.
When approached for comment, Metaplanet did not respond regarding Eric Trump’s participation in the conference. His representative also did not reply to inquiries.
Metaplanet has seen remarkable success since pivoting from being a hotel operator to focusing on crypto. Over the past year, its stock has surged nearly 760%, far outpacing the Topix index, which has advanced by about 14%.
Earlier in the year, Metaplanet formed a new advisory committee and introduced Eric Trump as a prominent advocate for global digital asset adoption.
Traditionally focusing on hotel operations, Metaplanet, which was formerly known as Red Planet Japan, has had an interesting evolution—including a previous stint as a wholesaler of music CDs. Notably, a subsidiary, Red Planet Hotels Japan, filed for bankruptcy in May 2024.
