Japan’s Tankan Large Manufacturing Index increases to 24 in Q3 compared to the anticipated 25

The latest Tankan survey from the Bank of Japan (BoJ) shows a slight improvement in business sentiment, although it fell short of market predictions in the manufacturing sector. The Tankan Large Manufacturing Index increased to 24 in the third quarter (Q3) from 22 before, which is lower than the expected 25.

In contrast, the Tankan Non-Manufacturing Index slipped to 35 in Q3 from 37 previously, also coming in under the market consensus of 36.

Market reaction

Currently, the USD/JPY pair is trading about 0.14% higher, around 157.50.
