Jared Allen’s Hall of Fame Speech: Family and Faith Take Center Stage
During his speech at the Pro Football Hall of Fame on August 2, former NFL star Jared Allen spoke about the significance of celebrating both his achievements and family. As he addressed the audience in Canton, Ohio, he stressed the importance of grounding his life in faith.
“In all aspects of my life—my relationship with Christ, my marriage, my role as a father—having a ‘why’ is crucial,” he said, standing alongside sports legends like Sterling Sharpe and Antonio Gates.
Allen, who retired in 2016 after helping the Carolina Panthers reach Super Bowl 50, reflected on his impressive career, which included multiple accolades as a top defensive player. He fondly recalled his time with the Minnesota Vikings, where he earned four Pro Bowl selections and three All-Pro honors. “I truly believe that God places individuals in our lives for a reason,” he remarked.
He expressed gratitude to his teammates, coaches, and the Vikings organization, calling it his home “forever.” Allen also took a moment to acknowledge his family, especially his father, Ron. Quoting Philippians 4:11-12, he mentioned learning to find happiness regardless of his circumstances.
Allen attributed his success to the powerful influence of his father’s resilience and faith. He reflected on standout moments from his career, particularly a memorable season with the Chiefs and another record-breaking year with the Vikings.
When discussing his mother, he emphasized her unwavering support and prayer. “Mom, you embody compassion and grace, always standing by me with prayer. I’ve, well, certainly had my moments of not being perfect,” he added with a touch of humor.
In an emotional part of his address, Allen told his daughters, Brittany and Lakeland, that they represent his true legacy, beyond any football achievements. “If one day I’m no longer around, and all they remember is this gold jacket, then I’ve failed as a father and a husband. You are my legacy, and I can’t wait to see what you achieve,” he stated.
He concluded with a heartfelt piece of advice: “Always put Christ first. Discover your ‘why,’ dream big, and strive for greatness in everything you do.”
Apart from his football accolades, Allen is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including a project aimed at building a handicap-accessible home for a veteran who lost mobility due to injuries sustained in Afghanistan.
