Jaren Jackson Jr. Set for Procedures on Right Leg Injury

The Memphis Grizzlies announced on Tuesday that Jaren Jackson Jr. will undergo procedures to treat an injury to his right leg.

The 25-year-old forward sustained a turf toe injury on his right foot during a “live basketball run” that took place away from the Grizzlies’ facility. According to the team’s statement, the injury was serious enough to require follow-up procedures.

An evaluation conducted on Monday indicated that surgical intervention is necessary.

The Grizzlies mentioned, “We will provide updates and keep everyone informed, but Jackson Jr. is anticipated to make a full recovery.”

Jackson plays a crucial role on the Grizzlies roster, and his absence could have a significant impact on Memphis’ performance. It’s worth noting that the team is preparing to begin the 2025-26 season without Zack Edith, who is recovering from a left ankle surgery.

Jackson, recognized as the 2023 defensive player of the year, holds a prominent position within the organization. His recent contract extension even included player options through the 2029-30 season. He is a leader for the team, alongside star player Ja Morant.

Last season, Jackson averaged 22.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game. He has also made two NBA All-Star appearances throughout his seven seasons with the Grizzlies, who picked him as the fourth overall selection in the 2018 draft.

Reports from ESPN’s Shams Charania indicated that Jackson recently renegotiated and extended his contract.

It’s important to note that Jackson is in the final year of his current deal with the Grizzlies this season. The team concluded the 2024-25 season with a record of 48-34, finishing second in the Southwest division, but faced a first-round playoff exit against the Thunder.
