Jarren Duran confronts Guardians fan who heckled him over suicide attempt

Jarlen Duran got mad with fans after clapping the Red Sox outfielder over a previously disclosed suicide attempt during Sunday’s game between Boston and Cleveland at Porcesive Field.

Duran had to be held back by the umpire and coach after he “crossed the line” with comments directed at the Red Sox players after fans popped out in the previous part of the innings.

The NESN broadcast did not repeat what he said to Duran, a former Red Sox player and current broadcast analyst. Middlebrook posted on x Fans said, “He told me he should kill him when he had the chance.”

Duran appeared to check when he posted a screenshot of Middlebrooks’ X post on his Instagram story.

The Red Sox outfielder also shared a post with a photo of the suspected fan who was engulfing him.

Fans commented on the top half of the seventh when Duran leapt into the left field.

The ballplayer heard the fans and stayed at the top of the dugout, staring at the fans as they walked over to confront the fans after the top half of the inning was over. However, the referee and his coach intervened, Nesn Sideline reporter Jahmail Webster reported in the air.

In a statement released after the incident, the Guardians said they would identify fans in question and cooperate with Major League Baseball on their next course of action.

The fans had been kicked out of the conflict and left the stadium, but his comments were so disgusting that other fans in the area helped security identify the fans in question. Reported by Cleveland.com.

“We recognize the gravity of the problematic actions here and take this nature very seriously. We apologise for dealing with the Red Sox organizations, stakeholders, local fans, and the situation,” the Guardians statement read.

Duran has openly spoken about his battle with mental health and suicide attempts in the field struggle in 2021 and 2022, Netflix Docsaries’ “The Clubhouse: A Year with the Red Sox.”

In a statement after the show premiered, Duran said it “feels important” to publicly share his fight with mental health.

“And if my story was useful to even one person, it was worth saying,” he said. “It’s what motivated me to tell my story, it’s the ability to help it, reaching people who feel lonely.”

Following Sunday’s match, Duran said he thanked the referee and security for helping him deal with the situation.

He also said it was the first time someone had said anything negative to him since he publicly spoke about his suicide attempt on the show.

“When you open yourself like that, you open yourself to the enemy too,” Duran said. All MassLive. “But I have good support staff around me. My teammates, coaches and fans were supporting me. It was great.”
