Jase Robertson shares his experience of surviving an ice storm

Winter Storm Hits “Duck Dynasty” Crew Hard

Last month, a massive winter storm swept through much of the South, and it turned out to be a challenging time for the crew of “Duck Dynasty.” Jace Robertson shared his experiences with Zack Dasher and Al Robertson, detailing some harrowing near-death moments that tested their limits.

Describing their situation, Dasher referred to their ordeal as the “Ice Apocalypse.” Even now, as he spoke, he mentioned still having ice underfoot, making it difficult to move around. After eight days without power, the struggle was all too real.

Challenges on the Ice

Jace recalled that while out on the Argo polar vehicle, a friend crashed into the ice. The crew spent days navigating through fallen trees while needing a chainsaw to clear their path. They noticed rising water levels, which became increasingly concerning as ducks took flight nearby.

“The water kept getting deeper,” Jace reflected. “We were losing it, heading out in the Argo, which only fits two people.”

As they forged through the thickening ice, the crew had to manually cut a path. As Jace said, “At some point, the water got really deep. The Argo wasn’t getting the power it needed.”

With tensions rising, he instructed everyone to stay calm, all while noting that one crew member, Cade, was shaking due to cold and discomfort.

A Day of Danger

Jace shared that they recognized the risks as icy water started flooding in, with one crew member, Barley, identifying the signs of hypothermia. With limited options for medical help, Jace positioned Cade by the campfire to keep him warm and directed him to remain alert.

Reflecting on the day, Jace recounted telling his wife, Missy, just how tough it had been. They lost both the truck and the Argo, and one of the crew had hypothermia but managed to survive.

Adding to the risks, Jace sustained an injury from a chainsaw while trying to clear branches. He hadn’t even realized how serious it was until he noticed bruises and cuts on his leg, realizing that it could have been much worse.

Close Calls

After managing some tense moments, Jace faced yet another near-miss. After cutting a tree, a large limb fell dangerously close to where he had just been standing, destroying a dumpster instead. “If I had been 30 seconds slower, I wouldn’t be here,” he said, reflecting on how quickly things could have turned tragic.

The “Duck Dynasty” family emphasized that the storm disrupted their routine, forcing them to endure frigid conditions without electricity. Reports indicated nationwide power outages topped 200,000, impacting areas in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.

Authorities warned that road conditions could remain hazardous for days following such severe weather. It’s a reminder of just how unpredictable winter can be.
