Jasmine Crockett’s Claim About Political Violence
Democratic MP Jasmine Crockett from Texas recently made a controversial statement, alleging that all political violence in the U.S. is linked to Trump supporters, including attempts on the president’s life. This claim surfaced during her appearance on the Hasan Minhaj podcast.
Crockett asserted, “The violence doesn’t come from Democrats. I mean, clearly, everyone can potentially act out, but it’s the Magazine. It’s specifically the Magazine. I don’t believe traditional Republicans are involved in this,” she commented.
When discussing assault attempts on President Trump, she labeled those involved as “Trump supporters,” though there’s no evidence backing this assertion. For instance, Thomas Matthew Crooks, one of the assailants in Pennsylvania, reportedly had no political motives. In contrast, the second assailant, Ryan Wesley Rouse, was a supporter of socialist Senator Bernie Sanders during the 2020 primary.
Furthermore, Crockett neglected to mention numerous instances where individuals on the left have resorted to violence, often in support of social causes, such as Black Lives Matter or regarding abortion rights. Recently, in Los Angeles, there have been incidents opposing immigration enforcement. According to a report from Breitbart News, up to ten people in Texas have faced charges for attempting to murder federal officers at an ICE detention facility. The Department of Justice stated, “Defendant, dressed in military-style clothing, started launching fireworks at the facility as part of an organized assault.”
Reports reveal that, after roughly ten minutes of gathering, one or two individuals diverged from the main group and began vandalizing vehicles and facilities in the parking lot. Officers Alvarado responded after corrections staff called 911, reporting suspicious behavior. Upon arrival, they allegedly encountered a shooter who fatally wounded a police officer nearby. Another suspect, positioned across the street, showered the area with 20-30 rounds as a corrections officer attempted to exit the site.
The complaint indicates that an AR-style rifle was recovered at the scene, while the gunman fled but was intercepted by additional law enforcement. Some suspects were equipped with body armor, firearms, and two-way radios. During the search around the Prairieland Detention Center, law enforcement located twelve sets of body armor.
Moreover, officials discovered graffiti along with flyers carrying politically charged messages such as “Fighting the horror of ICE in class wars” and “I will release all political prisoners.”
