Rep. Jasmine Crockett Faces Backlash Over Trump Encounter
During a meeting at the White House with African leaders, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) quickly found herself under fire. President Trump attempted to label her as “racist” and “embarrassing.”
Crockett shared a video online showcasing Trump’s response to Liberian President Joseph Boakai, who had commended the English spoken by African leaders.
In her remarks, Crockett stated, “Trump is racist and never misses a chance to be wrong. It’s just a continual embarrassment. Asking the President of Liberia about his English education when the country’s official language is rooted in ignorance is perplexing.”
Boakai remarked, “We wish to collaborate with the United States for peace and security in our region. We appreciate this opportunity.” To this, Trump replied, “Thank you. Such good English! Where did you learn to speak so beautifully?” When Boakai mentioned his education in Liberia, Trump jokingly added, “I can hardly speak to this table.”
In discussions with leaders from various countries including Gabon, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mauritania, and Senegal, Trump referred to his administration’s efforts as a “tiring endeavor” aimed at forging new economic partnerships with multiple African nations. He expressed an eagerness to work with these nations on pressing issues and emphasized the sustainability of their collaboration.
Following the meeting, social media buzzed with varying opinions about Crockett’s comments.
Some users reacted harshly, stating things like, “Yeah, girl, you’re just as racist as they come. Sit down,” while another remarked, “You never miss a chance to fuel race-related nonsense.” Others suggested she needed to “step back and get help,” and one user boldly stated, “You’re a scam; you should resign!”
A Twitter account shared a video juxtaposing Trump’s interactions with Boakai, seemingly questioning the public’s perception of him. The caption read, “Does everyone hate this guy? He brings good vibes to people.”
After the meeting, the White House shared a playful image featuring Boakai alongside Trump, both giving thumbs up.
Human rights advocates note that while English is Liberia’s official language, there are over 20 indigenous languages spoken, and a variant known as Liberian English also exists.
Earlier this year, Crockett faced controversy for her comments about Texas Governor Greg Abbott, whom she referred to as “Governor Hot Wheels,” and she recently drew attention for remarks linking black Americans to historical injustices.
Trump has previously mocked left-leaning representatives like Crockett, suggesting they lack intelligence and consistently miss opportunities to contribute positively.
