Texas Democrat’s Targeted Remarks on Melania Trump Spark Backlash
Democratic Representative Jasmine Crockett directed pointed comments at First Lady Melania Trump during a recent hearing, escalating the discussion to personal jabs.
Crockett criticized Melania’s modeling career and questioned her path to U.S. citizenship, but her comments backfired when social media erupted in response.
She expressed confusion about why her Republican peers were silent on issues such as integrity and visa processes pertaining to the president’s family. “Melania, the first lady—the model, and when I mention ‘model,’ I’m not exactly referring to Tyra Banks or Cindy Crawford here—I applied for an EB-1 visa and was granted it,” she stated.
Further, she implied that Melania failed to qualify for the so-called “Einstein Visa.” The online community quickly took to the platform to respond, some defending Crockett while others criticized her remarks.
Melania Trump arrived in the U.S. in the 1990s under an EB-1 visa and became a citizen in 2006 after her marriage to Donald Trump.
Crockett continued her critique, stating, “To earn such an honor, one would typically need remarkable achievements—like a Nobel Prize, Pulitzer, or an Olympic medal, in addition to significant contributions in their field.” She asserted, “Last I checked, the first lady doesn’t seem to have those accolades…”
This commentary quickly drew ire on social media, with users widely rallying against Crockett’s remarks. Many suggested that Melania had built a successful career and did not arrive in the country under dubious circumstances.
Some users criticized Crockett harshly, labeling her as lacking basic understanding and ethics. Comments ranged from condemning her intelligence to denouncing her overall approach as disgraceful.
So far, Donald Trump has not responded publicly to the matter.
