Jasmine Crockett Delivers Confusing Remarks About ‘Sesame Street’ In Iraq

Texas Democrat Questions Funding for Iraqi Children’s Program

Jasmine Crockett, a Texas Democrat, visited Tillard on Tuesday to discuss the necessity of U.S. taxpayer funding for Iraq’s version of “Sesame Street.”

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) has faced criticism for alleged misuse of taxpayer money, which includes financial support for children’s programming like “Sesame Street” in Iraq and other Middle Eastern nations. During a session of the House Judiciary Committee, Crockett asserted that investing in such children’s television is vital to prevent other countries from fostering negative views towards the United States.

“When we discuss whether ‘Sesame Street’ or any other programming on NPR or PBS will continue, it boils down to ensuring that people don’t become radicalized due to distorted perceptions of us,” Crockett stated.

USAID, in addition to the “Sesame Workshop,” has collaborated on a project called “Ahlan Simsim,” which translates to “Welcome Sesame.” This initiative aims to promote understanding and inclusivity. However, Crockett struggled to articulate how this program would diminish negative propaganda against the U.S. in the Middle East.

Recently, USAID has distributed billions in foreign aid, including $68 billion in 2023, with a significant portion directed to Ukraine. Just last year, the agency also sent millions of contraceptive products overseas to support family planning, along with $2 million to Guatemala for gender transformation operations.

Democrats expressed outrage at the cuts, referencing Elon Musk’s oversight of USAID. Crockett claimed, without providing evidence, that reducing USAID funding could lead to another large-scale attack similar to 9/11 during her appearance on Thursday’s “Let’s Be Clear” podcast.
