Jasmine Crockett Comments on Comey’s Indictment
Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett has suggested that a defense attorney who takes on the case of former FBI director James Comey could carve out a notable reputation for themselves. This comes after a federal jury indicted Comey for allegedly lying to Congress and obstructing justice during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in September 2020.
During an appearance on “All In,” host Chris Hayes asked Crockett, a former lawyer, if she would be interested in taking the case. “It’s a chance for someone to really make a name for themselves. If they have even a slight capability, they should be able to win,” she responded. She emphasized the importance of pushing forward, mentioning that discussions about expediting a trial have already been formalized at the federal level.
Crockett continued, “I think they might struggle to determine who actually prosecutes rather than just finding someone to defend.” This comes amid a backdrop of Democratic opposition to the indictment, with Senator Richard Blumenthal from Connecticut expressing hopes that “private bars” will respond to Trump. Additionally, Democrat Eric Swalwell hinted that complaints against attorneys who side with prosecutors like Comey could be utilized.
A report from Special Advisor John Durham has shed light on the origins of the FBI investigation into claims that President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign colluded with Russia, an inquiry that began while Comey was still serving as director before his dismissal in 2017.
