Jason Momoa dodges severe floods in Hawaii as a powerful storm hits the island: 'We're safe for now'

Actor Jason Momoa has shared that he and his family are safe after evacuating parts of Hawaii, as a severe storm brings about the worst flash flooding the area has experienced in over twenty years.

The ‘Aquaman’ star expressed his concern on Instagram, revealing that they left Oahu’s North Shore on Friday due to the destructive rains and mudslides that damaged homes, roads, and vehicles, necessitating widespread evacuations near Wahiawa Dam.

“We’re alright, but a lot of others aren’t, so I’m sending all my love to them,” Momoa said in a video on his Instagram story, sounding quite somber.

“We all… hope everyone can get to safety because the North Shore is facing some dangerous conditions. We’ll come together to figure out how to help. Sending love and stay safe,” he added.

The 46-year-old, originally from Hawaii, also posted footage showing the intense waves near his father’s home.

In another update, Momoa mentioned that his rock band, Auf Tatata, had to cancel a fundraising event to prioritize everyone’s safety.

“Sadly, we’ll have to cancel. We might explore doing some online stuff to share the music,” the former ‘Game of Thrones’ actor explained.

Moreover, Honolulu officials ordered the evacuation of over 5,000 residents living downstream from the dam, which has long been seen as vulnerable, with risks of imminent collapse.

“Our focus right now is on ensuring safety—that’s what’s really important,” he said.

Reports state that within just 24 hours, the water level at the dam increased significantly, nearing its storage capacity. Over 230 individuals have been rescued as heavy rains affected Oahu, with damages potentially surpassing $1 billion. Although about ten people are currently hospitalized for hypothermia, fortunately, there have been no reported fatalities.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning across all of Hawaii until Sunday.
