The New York Giants Struggle Continues
The New York Giants find themselves at a disappointing 2-7 for the third consecutive year, and the pressure is mounting on head coach Brian Daboll.
Daboll joined the Giants in 2022, alongside quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley. He initially made a splash by leading the team to the playoffs with a 9-7-1 record and even took home the Coach of the Year award. Yet, the past three seasons have been tough for the franchise.
That said, there’s a glimmer of hope in East Rutherford—quarterback Jackson Dart, whom the Giants traded for in April.
As Daboll’s contract winds down, and with the team amidst another rough season, talk has emerged about Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin possibly stepping in to replace him.
In a light-hearted moment, Dart’s father, Brandon, mentioned that he texted Kiffin in their family group chat. He talked about how radio host Boomer Esiason humorously suggested that Kiffin should think twice about taking a coaching job, to which Kiffin replied, “New York is too cold for me.” It’s kind of a funny exchange, right? “It’s great,” Brandon Dart noted.
He also remarked on their strong bond, stating that Jackson holds Kiffin in high regard and often looks to him for advice. “We’re really grateful for Coach Kiff,” he added, emphasizing the special relationship they share.
The Giants drafted Dart with the 25th overall pick, and he’s made a significant impact since becoming the starter in Week 4, even if the team’s record doesn’t fully reflect his abilities. After a tough debut against the New Orleans Saints, he showed promise, but the team faced a rough stretch where they became the first to allow 33 points in a single fourth quarter.
Despite the challenges, Dart has thrown for 10 touchdowns, rushed for five, and maintained a 62.3 completion rate in just six starts. However, he has faced setbacks too, like losing his top receiver Malik Nabors in his initial start and rookie running back Cam Skatebo later due to injury.
As for Daboll, he holds a record of 20-39-1 during his time with the Giants, with the bulk of his wins coming from that first season. The following years brought turmoil, including one of the worst in the team’s history with a 6-11 record, and a stunning 3-14 last season.
