Jay Cutler’s Sentence Following DUI Case
Jay Cutler is set to spend some time behind bars as part of an agreement with prosecutors to resolve his DUI case in Tennessee.
The former quarterback for the Broncos, Bears, and Dolphins pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge. Following his plea, he will serve additional days in jail, according to reports.
In exchange for this agreement, the prosecutors in Williamson County dropped the firearm charges against him.
At 42, Cutler has been sentenced to four days in prison. He was also fined $350 and will be on supervised probation for a year.
His prison time is scheduled for late September.
Along with serving his sentence, Cutler is required to attend a DUI safety course and has had his driver’s license suspended for a year.
The incident occurred in October in Franklin, Tennessee, where he was involved in a traffic accident. Police noted that he displayed signs of intoxication.
He collided with another vehicle and, according to officers, had slurred speech and refused to undergo a field sobriety test. Blood samples taken later at a local hospital indicated further issues. Authorities found two firearms in his vehicle.
After the incident, Cutler faced several charges, including DUI and possession of a handgun while under the influence, with implications regarding his driving behavior.
As part of a plea deal, some of the charges were dismissed.
Cutler had a notable 12-season NFL career, beginning with the Broncos, where he threw for 9,024 yards and 54 touchdowns in his first three seasons. He continued with the Bears and Dolphins before retiring in 2018.
Overall, he amassed 35,133 passing yards and 227 touchdown passes throughout his professional career.
