“We were talking about ‘the best,’ but in the interview we talked about the GOAT,” Williams said during a call for Wednesday’s LSU-Kentucky men’s game. “For me, it’s like, ‘You want to be the GOAT? Fine. There are levels of greatness. To be the GOAT, you have to win championships.’
“So when people try to praise her as the greatest (of all time), I’m like, ‘Let’s take it easy.’ I’ve seen Diana Taurasi, I’ve seen Brianna Stewart. You can sit there and say all day long, “She played with other great players.” OK, great. Championships — that’s how we measure overall greatness. ”
Much of the criticism comes from people pointing out that Williams is black and Clark is white. But Williams says that has nothing to do with his opinion.
“Please stop provoking the race,” Williams said in the video. he posted on x, formerly Twitter. “Please. There’s no one here trying to do that. They’re just bastards. Now, great comment, [Angel Reese and Clark]. Both are great, okay? We were talking about levels of greatness and immortality. And in the temple of greatness there are levels to greatness. [championships]. I think so.

“You think differently? Fine. But what I’m saying is, to all you brave keyboard players out there who call me crap or try to make fun of my career, no one can stop me. I mean, you can’t. 90 percent of you haven’t even picked up a basketball. You can’t even dribble a rock. You can’t even shoot. So stop trying to be strong on your keyboard. Just because you disagree with someone doesn’t mean you have to call their game crap when you know it’s not the case.”

Clark became the NCAA women’s all-time leading scorer last week, 74 points shy of passing “Pistol” Pete Maravich as the all-time NCAA scorer. If she continues to average 32.4 points per game, she will break that record on March 3 in Iowa’s final regular season game against Ohio State, a top-five team.
