Jaydon Blue start or bench: Week 1 fantasy football guidance

The 2025 NFL season kicks off this Thursday night, featuring a showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys at 8:20 PM on NBC.

The Cowboys are drawing significant attention, especially given their recent changes. There’s a lot of speculation about how they’ll stack up against the reigning Super Bowl champions. Their offense includes some newcomers, not least of which is rookie running back Jadon Blue. He’s currently sitting in the 40s for average draft position in standard and PPR formats, and he’s expected to share touches in the backfield with Miles Sanders.

We’ll take a look at Blue’s potential in fantasy football for the opening week.

Fantasy Football Analysis: Cowboys RB Jadon Blue

Blue, drafted in the fifth round this past April, brings new energy to the Cowboys’ running back corps this season. The speedy 5’9″ Texan had a standout year with the Longhorns, helping them reach the College Football Playoff semi-finals by racking up 739 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. He also contributed 368 receiving yards and six touchdowns from 42 catches.

His blend of speed and receiving ability has made him a popular sleeper pick among fantasy enthusiasts, despite the presence of veteran backs like Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders.

Should You Start or Sit Him in Standard Leagues This Week?

Sit. Currently, Blue ranks third on the Dallas unofficial depth chart. Since the opener is against the defending champions, his usage might be limited. While there’s potential for him to leapfrog Williams and Sanders later in the season, it’s best to keep him on the bench for now.

What About in PPR Leagues?

Sit. If the Cowboys find themselves in a passing situation, there could be chances for the rookie to snag targets. However, I’m not convinced a flex spot in PPR leagues will provide enough value just yet, so I would avoid starting him this week as well.
