Jaylen Brown Questions NBA Officials’ Fairness After Playoff Exit

During a recent livestream, Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown expressed his frustrations with NBA referees, suggesting they had “intentions” against him in the playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers, which concluded with a Game 7 defeat.

In a statement made Saturday, Brown pointed out that Joel Embiid, the 76ers’ center, received a favorable call after the Celtics’ loss. He openly confronted the officiating decisions during the stream.

Brown noted, “They keep saying there are pushovers and stuff like that. Do you have any idea how many players do this? It’s a common play in basketball. Everyone does it. So why would they single me out? They clearly had an agenda, likely because I was critical of the officials earlier in the season. Their response? I ended up leading the playoffs in offensive fouls.”

He continued, mentioning his discussions with various referees about an agenda for each game, referencing specific players and how they are treated differently on the court. “Once Jalen gets better, just look at the reputation,” he said, emphasizing the unfairness he feels. “The Philadelphia team made the most of their opportunities, and the referees’ calls affected us significantly.”

In the decisive Game 7, the 76ers emerged victorious with a score of 109-100, led by Embiid’s impressive 34 points, along with 12 rebounds and six assists.

Brown had some direct comments about Embiid’s performance, stating, “Embiid really pressured us, both the bigs and the guards. We struggled to counter him. We tried various strategies, but he was dominant and often seemed to draw extra calls. They rewarded him for it, but that’s just how the league operates.”

Averaging 25.7 points per game this season, Brown was a standout player for the Celtics, particularly during a time when Jayson Tatum was sidelined. He participated in 71 games, boasting averages of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists.

The Celtics finished the season strong, placing second in the Eastern Conference with a record of 56 wins and 26 losses.
