Chisholm’s Reaction to Game 1 Bench Decision

Jazz Chisholm Jr. didn’t openly express disappointment about being left out of the Yankees’ lineup for Game 1 of the Wild Card Series on Tuesday. Honestly, he really didn’t need to.

His body language conveyed a lot during a quick chat with a reporter. “We’ve come to do whatever we have to do to win, right?” he remarked after the Yankees lost 3-1 to the Red Sox. “That’s how I see it.”

Chisholm appeared calm, perhaps a bit too indifferent regarding the decision. Manager Aaron Boone opted for a right-handed lineup against formidable lefty Garrett Crochet, leaving Chisholm on the bench.

Rosario had a solid performance, going 3-for-3 before Chisholm took over in the eighth. Boone, however, prioritized strong defense, starting Jose Caballero in Rosario’s place, who unfortunately didn’t have a great night at the plate, going 0-for-3.

“It’s always tough to watch when your team loses,” Chisholm commented, recalling his attempt to make an impact against Aroldis Chapman in the ninth inning.

Boone had mentioned before the game that he wouldn’t hesitate to bring Chisholm in early, but Crochet was in control, striking out Yankees’ hitters with ease. Chisholm had a .248 average with a .733 OPS against lefties this season as he eyes a 30-30 season.

I mean, it’s a bit frustrating, but baseball can be unpredictable. You never know how things might play out, right?

Chisholm also shared that Boone texted him on Monday night to inform him he wouldn’t be starting. “I think that’s how it goes,” he said, hinting at a conversation that wasn’t too in-depth but still significant.

He is expected to be back in the lineup against Red Sox righty Brayan Bello on Wednesday. But, who knows? Baseball has its quirks.
