Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been placed on the 10-day injured list, as announced by the team on Friday. This decision was made retroactively from Wednesday after he injured himself during a swing against Baltimore on Tuesday and had to come out of the game while trying to advance to third base.
To fill Chisholm’s spot on the roster, Yorvit Vivas has been called up from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre.
Chisholm was hoping to avoid this IL stint, as he doesn’t like missing games. After an MRI on Thursday, the Yankees decided it was best to exercise caution regarding his injury.
Pablo Reyes took over at second base during Wednesday’s loss to the Orioles.
Though Vivas had been recalled earlier in the season, he didn’t see any game time then.
“I’m not as worried as everyone else,” Chisholm mentioned after Wednesday’s win in Baltimore. “I feel pretty good. I’ve dealt with something similar before, so I know it’s not too serious. I can cough without pain, but I just need to be careful and not push it.”
If everything goes well, Chisholm might be back in over a week, depending on how serious the injury is. Last month was a bit rough for him, but in his last eight games, he managed to hit .276 with an extra-base hit.
