Minneapolis – Jazz Chisholm Jr. Shines in Victory

Jazz Chisholm Jr. has been quite the player this season, showcasing his skills both at the plate and in the field. His lively personality adds to the spectacle, but on Wednesday night, he made some quiet yet crucial contributions to help his team secure a 10-5 win over the Twins.

One of the standout moments came in the fourth inning. Brooks Lee hit a ground ball that veered toward Chisholm. He made an impressive backhanded stop but ended up leaning forward as he lost his balance. Somehow, he managed to leap off his right foot and still nab a one-hopper from Paul Goldschmidt.

“I slipped and tried to get up and turn in the opposite direction. I realized I wasn’t facing the right way,” Chisholm explained. “I just jumped and threw the other way around. It’s a play you don’t really practice, but somehow, I pulled it off.”

Manager Aaron Boone chuckled at the incident, saying, “I don’t know what I was watching, but it was a really great play.” Gil, the pitcher, definitely appreciated Chisholm’s help.

Later, in the fifth inning, Byron Buxton hit a ball to left-center. Chisholm, moving well beyond his base, expertly backhanded the ball and made a smooth throw to Jose Caballero, securing a force out at second base.

“We didn’t hit well today, but I felt like my defense helped us out a bit,” Chisholm said. “I think I did my part.”

Amidst this, it’s worth noting that Jasson Dominguez had been dealing with a dental infection that required a root canal. But he seemingly overcame that challenge, making a notable comeback by going 3-for-3 with an RBI double, a couple of steals, and two runs.

Boone remarked, “It didn’t go well there for a few days. But he turned the corner and was available in an emergency. His work on Tuesday was impressive, so having him back today was fantastic.”

Dominguez’s performance allowed Boone to rest Giancarlo Stanton, who he felt needed a break. “I think he really needed this today,” Boone said.

In another note, Anthony Volpe had a successful start, going 2-2 with a walk on Tuesday, while Caballero had an effective return to shortstop on Wednesday, contributing to the offense with 3-3 performance, including walks and runs scored.

Additionally, the Yankees made a trade, moving outfielder Marshall Tour to the Rays, a player involved in the Caballero deal, which sent Everson Pereira to Tampa Bay.

The 22-year-old Toole, who was the Yankees’ 15th-round draft pick last year, has had a solid season, hitting .305 with an .885 OPS and stealing 44 bases in 96 games in low-A Tampa.
