Vance Hints at Future Political Plans with Trump’s Backing
Vice President J.D. Vance recently implied that Donald Trump is likely to support his future political ventures, which has stirred conversations about the upcoming 2028 presidential race. Vance mentioned that he and his wife would decide on his political path after the midterm elections. These remarks have led many to speculate on who might step into the America First movement as Trump’s second term draws to a close.
In his new book, Communion, Vance reflects on a controversial comment he made during his 2021 Senate campaign, labeling it one of the “stupidest” things he ever said, according to NBC News. During an appearance on “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” he remarked that the country is run by “childless cat ladies” through the Democratic Party, claiming that they want to make everyone else miserable too.
He specifically called out figures like then-Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, asserting, “The entire future of the Democratic Party is controlled by people who don’t have children. And what’s the point in handing this country over to people who don’t really have a direct stake in it?” It’s worth noting that Harris has two adult stepchildren.
In an August 2021 post on X, Buttigieg shared that he and his husband, Chasten, were expanding their family through adoption, stating they were thrilled to welcome two children. He described the emotional support they received during this time as overwhelming.
Vance’s book addresses his past comments, which he acknowledges were “upsetting.” He conceded that it diverted attention from the point he intended to make: that society is increasingly unfriendly toward child-rearing. “We could have expressed this idea more effectively,” he admitted, “and demonstrated more understanding for all the Americans who are childless for various reasons.”
Vance was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, assuming office in early 2023. In 2024, Trump nominated him as his running mate, and he took on the vice presidency in early 2025.
Reflecting on his earlier remarks, he stated, “One of the stupidest things I ever said was when I claimed that the entire Democratic Party’s ‘childless cat ladies’ were ruining our country.” He recognized the comment caused a stir, saying it was both deliberately provocative and, in hindsight, rather foolish.
Vance also expressed that he spends several hours each day with his family, referring to this time as “sacred.” He has cited various events that influenced him and his wife’s decision to have more children, indicating a personal journey intertwined with broader societal discussions about family and parenting.
In closing, he acknowledged his faith as a Catholic and reflected on moments where he felt he had failed to respect the dignity of all life, emphasizing the importance of being mindful in discussions about family and societal roles.
JD Vance calls his ‘childless cat ladies’ comment “one of the dumbest things I’ve ever said” in his new book.
