JD Vance confronts Stephanopoulos about accusations of bribes involving Tom Homan

Vance Spars with Stephanopoulos in Interview

Vice President J.D. Vance had a heated exchange with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos on Sunday, which concluded abruptly after Vance denied allegations of accepting bribes from Border Czar Tom Homan. He accused Stephanopoulos of losing credibility in the process.

Throughout the interview, Stephanopoulos pressed Vance on whether Homan had indeed received financial compensation, referencing what he called an audio recording from FBI surveillance in September 2024, where Homan allegedly accepted $50,000 in cash.

In September 2024, it was reported that Homan came under suspicion for accepting cash from undercover FBI agents posing as business executives, purportedly to assist in securing government contracts should Trump resume presidency. The FBI later announced the conclusion of their investigation into Homan, while the White House maintained that Homan never took any money and that Trump had not instructed the Justice Department to halt the inquiry.

Vance responded assertively, “George, I don’t know what tape you’re talking about. I saw reports claiming Tom Homan took bribes, but there’s no evidence to back that.” He expressed his belief that this was a reason for declining viewership on Stephanopoulos’s program, stating, “This is why fewer and fewer people are watching your show and losing trust.” Vance continued, “You’ve spent five minutes discussing a story about Tom Homan, but I have no knowledge of the video you’re referencing.”

Vance suggested that more pressing issues should be the focus, telling Stephanopoulos he was “going down a bizarre left-wing rabbit hole” when the facts clearly exonerated Homan of any criminal activity.

In response to Vance’s commentary, Stephanopoulos insisted, “It’s not some weird left-wing rabbit hole. I simply asked if Tom Homan received $50,000, per the audio tape, and you haven’t answered.” He concluded the interview with, “Thank you for your time this morning.”

Vance attempted to speak further, but the host moved on. Following the interview, Vance took to social media, expressing that Stephanopoulos failed to address other significant news, such as the Middle East peace discussions and the government shutdown.

He criticized the media’s focus, stating, “George doesn’t care about the real story; he’s just concentrating on this fake scandal related to Tom Homan.”

The White House press secretary, Caroline Levitt, had previously addressed the allegations a month earlier. “Mr. Homan never received the money in question. We should clarify our facts,” she asserted. Levitt characterized the investigation as a ploy by the Biden Justice Department to undermine a significant supporter of Trump, claiming they sought to fabricate a scandal involving a prominent ally before his anticipated government position.

Earlier, officials from the Trump administration had sidestepped direct statements about Homan not receiving cash, asserting instead that no evidence of misconduct existed.
