Ilhan Omar Under Federal Investigation
Vice President J.D. Vance made an announcement on Tuesday revealing that Illinois Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar is currently being investigated by the Justice Department.
The investigation involves several allegations linked to her former marriage alongside potential ties to a fraudulent scheme called “Feeding Our Future.” Additionally, there’s curiosity surrounding her financial disclosures, particularly the dramatic increase in her investments since she took office.
Vance did seem to hint at some suspicions regarding allegations that Omar may have committed fraud involving her brother, leading to questions about potential immigration fraud. He leads the Trump administration’s anti-fraud task force.
When asked directly if charges were anticipated, Vance responded cautiously, highlighting the need to let the investigation unfold. “You read about Ilhan Omar and who she married, and whether she didn’t marry this person or that person,” he said.
He added, “There certainly seems to be something suspicious, but we will investigate, because everyone is entitled to equal justice under the law. If we believe a crime has occurred, we will act accordingly.” This comment underscores the seriousness of the ongoing investigation by the Department of Justice.
In a podcast from March, Vance had been more definitive about his perspective on the allegations, asserting, “Ilhan Omar undoubtedly committed immigration fraud against the United States.” He portrayed her as central to some significant fraudulent activities within the Somali community.
Omar quickly responded to Vance’s claims, asserting that his comments were part of a broader effort to manipulate the media narrative. “That’s a lot of money from someone who literally said, ‘Create a story’ to change the direction of the media,” Omar noted, criticizing Vance’s motives.
She also dismissed the allegations as “a ridiculous lie and a desperate attempt by the Pedophile Protection Party to distract” from other pressing issues, such as rising gas prices and dwindling voter support.
Another point of contention is Omar’s reported financial gain during her time in Congress, as evidenced by substantial increases in her asset valuations in official disclosures. Subsequently, she issued a correction indicating errors totaling tens of millions of dollars, which raised further concerns.
