Vice President JD Vance on Jimmy Kimmel’s Remarks
Vice President JD Vance expressed his fondness for Jimmy Kimmel, who returned to his late-night show after a brief break to address comments he made regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kimmel’s remarks had caused a stir among conservatives and drawn criticism from Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Kerr.
During an interview on “Ingraham’s Angle,” Vance stated that Kimmel’s comments were more than just a joke. He accused Kimmel of suggesting that right-wing America was somehow responsible for Kirk’s death, stating, “That’s simply incorrect. Charlie Kirk was murdered by a leftist assassin, radicalized by some of the extreme rhetoric out there.” Vance went on to express his concerns about the portrayal of prayer vigils for Kirk, arguing that Kimmel’s words could incite violence.
The Vice President emphasized the need for honesty in discussing the issues surrounding left-wing violence, asserting that Kirk’s murder was not a result of actions by “MAGA Americans” or left-wing extremists. He criticized Kimmel’s initial comments on September 15, which labeled Republican reactions to Kirk’s assassination as an attempt to politicize the tragedy.
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect in Kirk’s assassination, has been charged with aggravated murder, among other offenses. Reports indicate that his family shared concerns about his political views, suggesting he had been influenced by certain online communities.
Kimmel’s latest monologue has garnered significant attention, attracting over 21 million views on YouTube shortly after airing, alongside an average viewership of about 6.2 million, according to the New York Times.
