Vice President JD Vance said Wednesday that the biggest obstacle to the massive deportation promised by President Donald Trump was policies implemented by the previous Biden administration.
Vance had answered a question from Blaze Media national correspondent Julio Rosas about some disappointment at the number of deportations since Trump took office 44 days ago. The Vice President asked questions after visiting the Mexican US border in Eagle Pass, Texas.
“We don't have to go around and arrest everyone, but we'll enforce the American immigration law.”
“There's obviously a lot of illegal immigrants, so a lot of attention is being drawn to the interiors. In your opinion, what is the biggest obstacle to actually carrying out President Trump's massive deportation?” asked Rosas. “Yes, yes, anxiety, arrests and deportation increased in his first month, but many people were hoping for a greater capacity for deportation.”
“So let's say a few things about it,” Vance replied.
“First of all, Rome was not built in a day, and we have seen a rather large increase in deportation, anxiety and arrests, but we need to remember that President Biden has hampered the entire country's immigration enforcement regime.
“That's common sense. That's what the American people want to do for us,” Vance said.
“There are a few other things we're working on. We don't want to go ahead with public announcements, but one way we want to enforce borders is to make it easier for those here to return home with their own concordance,” he continued.
“We don't have to go around and arrest everyone, but we'll enforce immigration laws for the American people,” Vance said. “If you're here illegally, here's the message from our administration: You should go home, and if you want to come to the US, you apply through the right channel. That's the important thing we're doing.”
He said another obstacle was the cost of enforcement. He said the administration is prioritizing it to increase immigration enforcement.
“We've made a lot of progress, but we're going to continue working on it for the rest of our presidential term,” he concluded.
