Jeanine Pirro Questioned on Her Support for Trump's Suggestion to Federalize DC

Discussion on Youth Crime in Washington, D.C.

Janeine Pillo, a lawyer from Washington, D.C., addressed concerns about youth crime on Thursday. This came in response to a reporter’s question regarding her stance on the potential federal takeover of the District of Columbia.

The White House is contemplating this drastic measure to combat rising crime rates in the capital, particularly in light of recent attacks. Pillo shared her views during a press conference, noting that President Donald Trump had initiated this discussion but emphasizing her commitment to stricter penalties for youth offenders.

When asked directly if she supported Trump’s proposal, Pillo responded, “That’s the president’s decision, but there’s a growing concern about the level of crimes committed by young people, ages 14, 15, and 16.” She stressed the importance of accountability, suggesting that offenders shouldn’t just go through family court processes that might be too lenient. “The D.C. Council really needs to reconsider some of these laws. They’re not doing anything to protect our community,” she added.

In a separate incident, Edward Colistine, a government staff member, intervened during a carjacking at around 3 a.m. on Sunday and was severely injured. Photographs taken after the incident showed him bloodied and battered.

Trump mentioned the possibility of deploying the National Guard to address violent crime following this attack. The issue of safety was further highlighted by a recent shooting incident that resulted in the death of 21-year-old Congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Yachim near a metro station. He, along with two others, was shot when suspects allegedly emerged from a vehicle and opened fire in a public area.

Another tragic event occurred on May 22, when two Israeli embassy employees were shot outside the capital’s Jewish Museum. Pillo’s remarks during the press conference also touched on the charges against the shooter, Elias Rodriguez, although she noted that no decision had been made regarding seeking the death penalty.

Pillo highlighted a concerning case where a 19-year-old suspect involved in a shooting received a probation sentence. “We can’t allow this,” she insisted. “At 19, you’re not a child anymore. The D.C. Council needs to implement changes to hold individuals accountable for their actions.”
