Angels Spark a Fan’s Renewed Passion for Baseball

It’s been a challenging season for the Angels, but surprisingly, one fan seems to have reignited his love for the game, and it’s all thanks to the team.

Sports writer Jeff Perlman, who has won accolades from the New York Times, shared a TikTok video explaining how he’s found joy in baseball again through the Angels.

“Last month, I went to about five games—three of them solo. You might be asking, ‘Who goes to a baseball game alone?’” Perlman said in his video. “We even park off-site to save on fees, which we love.”

He went on to express his fondness for the ballpark experience: the atmosphere, the aesthetics, the greenery, the national anthem, and even the quirky promotions the Angels put on.

Despite a disappointing season record of 39 wins and 61 losses, Perlman enjoyed watching games without breaking the bank, calling it “the cheapest and best value game I’ve ever seen.”

He compared the cost of Angels tickets to Dodgers tickets, noting his relief at avoiding the hefty $40 parking fee and $100 plus for tickets at Dodgers games.

Perlman, a bestselling author recognized for his writing on sports, has penned notable works like “Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty” and “Three-Ring Circus: Kobe, Shaq, Phil, and the Crazy Days of the Lakers Dynasty.”

Now, his joy comes from the pure experience of attending Angels games, snapping photos with fellow fans, and just enjoying the atmosphere. He’s also looking forward to savoring cold brew coffee with cocoa puffs at the Rise Espresso Bar in the stadium.

Looking ahead, the 2026 season could be particularly tough for Angels fans, with the team on track to potentially record 100 losses in a season—a first for them.

This season, fans at Angel Stadium have openly expressed frustration with ownership. Earlier, they organized protests calling for owner Arte Moreno to sell the team after a rough season.

There have been stadium protests, complete with fan chants of “Sell the team” ringing out from the stands.

While Perlman had mixed feelings about protests like Tarp Off, he still found them amusing.

“My new happy place is going to Angels games,” Perlman reflected. “I’ve got free parking, a $5 ticket, and I just embrace the game, likely expecting a loss. It’s all about enjoying the moment.”
