The Jets' defense stood out as the strongest unit under coach Robert Saleh.
And that's where teams are taking notice of Saleh's incredible shooting after just five games Tuesday.
The Jets announced in a statement through team owner Woody Johnson that defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has been named the Jets' interim coach and will remain in that position for the remainder of the season.
“He's a tough coach and respected by the coaches and players on this team.” Mr Johnson said in a statement:. “I believe he and the coaches on this staff can get the most out of our talented team and achieve the goals we established this offseason.”
Ulbrich previously served as the Falcons' defensive coordinator and linebackers coach before joining the Jets in 2021 when Saleh became the team's head coach.
Despite a record of 20 wins and 36 losses during Saleh's reign, he led a strong unit.
The Jets ranked last in the NFL in yards allowed per game in their first season in 2021, but have since rebounded to rank fourth and third in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Gang Green was second this season, giving up just 255.8 yards per game. The Jets rank seventh, allowing just 17 points per game.
Ulbrich, 47, brings playing experience to the role, which always resonates within the locker room.
He was selected in the third round by San Francisco out of Hawaii and played 10 seasons in the NFL with the 49ers from 2000 to 2009.
Ulbrich played in 120 games and started 75 games during his career, recording 5 1/2 sacks.
His first game as head coach will be a prime-time “Monday Night Football” showdown against the Bills at MetLife Stadium for first place in the AFC East.
The Jets (2-3) are just one game away from first in the division despite consecutive losses to the Vikings and Broncos.
Ulbrich's defense allowed just 10 points against the Browns in Week 4, and just 16 against the Vikings (Aaron Rodgers threw a pick-six).
