Jelly Roll isn’t backing down from his stance.
This week, after Christian artist Forrest Frank shared some Instagram videos, Jelly Roll stated that his choice to skip awards shows and not accept accolades for his music was “of and for Jesus.” However, Frank’s reasoning seems a bit off.
“I’m not going to take any trophies from Jesus for Jesus, but I’m going to take some benefits from Jesus for Jesus. Maybe I’m missing something here lol,” the country musician commented.
Reactions to Jelly Roll’s remarks were mixed; one critic remarked, “Wow, that comment shows your true nature.”
On the flip side, another user defended him, saying, “The Holy Spirit works uniquely, and Forrest is just sharing his personal beliefs about the prize. One person’s conviction shouldn’t make another feel guilty. We should challenge each other respectfully. Both of you are incredible vessels for the Lord’s work!”
One comment even took a jab at Frank, implying that he might be profiting off his belief, saying, “Wait until you see how much he charges for a hoodie… it doesn’t pass the smell test.”
FOX News Digital has reached out to representatives for Jelly Roll and Frank.
In his Instagram video, Frank discussed the difficulty of balancing being part of the world while not fully engaging with it.
He admitted that his style might appear “worldly,” but he believes he can determine his own boundaries regarding award ceremonies.
“I don’t accept trophies from or for Jesus,” he clarified.
Frank opened up about his personal struggles with this topic, mentioning his discomfort after winning Best Newcomer at last year’s Dove Awards.
He recalled telling himself, “I’m still grappling with winning this award, but glory be to Jesus, every name goes down, including mine, except for one name.”
Currently, he feels he has advanced his stance enough that he chose not to participate in events such as the Dove Awards or the Grammys. He stated, “I want to be a role model for young people that trophies aren’t our salvation. A trophy doesn’t determine my eternal life. What’s a piece of metal in comparison to that?”
This year’s Dove Awards took place on October 7th, and Jelly Roll delivered a powerful speech after winning Song of the Year for his collaboration “Hard Fight Hallelujah” with Brandon Lake.
“The world is hearing about Jesus now like it hasn’t in decades,” he expressed. “There’s a revival happening in America, and you can’t walk down a street without hearing about Jesus. While this message spreads, I encourage everyone to act on their faith and do more than just stay inside.”
On Instagram, Dove Award shared a video of Jelly Roll’s speech, and Frank offered his congratulations, saying, “Keep up the great work for Jesus.”
