Jelly Roll meeting Eminem for first time had country singer ‘losing his mind’

Jelly Roll gave fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the making of his duet with rapper Eminem.

Jelly Roll (real name Jason Deford) and Eminem teamed up in June for “Live From Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central,” when the rapper asked the country music star to perform “Sing for the Moment.”

“I’m going to meet Eminem,” Jelly Roll explained. videoThe post was posted on Aug. 23. “In a way, you could say it’s like going to see Eminem from the Grand Ole Opry.”

“Jason Deford at 40 would be crazy,” the country music star added, “because I know 15-year-old Jason Deford would definitely be crazy! It’s unbelievable, it’s so amazing.”

In the video, Jelly Roll was seen flying into Detroit for the show the morning after playing two shows at the Grand Ole Opry.

Jelly Roll revealed that he was “a little nervous” when he met Eminem, and wasn’t even sure if the rapper knew who he was.

“No, I’ve known you for a while,” Eminem admitted.

“40 year old Jason Deford would be mind blowing. 15 year old Jason Deford would definitely be mind blowing! Unbelievable, so amazing.”

Jelly Roll explained that meeting Eminem was on his list of highlights as a musician, alongside meeting Garth Brooks and Dolly Parton.

Jelly Roll sings the chorus of Eminem’s song “Somebody Save Me,” which talks about the 51-year-old rapper’s struggle with drug addiction and features home video clips of Eminem’s daughter, Hailie Jade.

“When I watch the video back and listen to the song, I feel like my parents tried to stop me from realizing how terrible things were growing up, but now, looking back as an adult, it’s such a scary thing to think about and I think that’s why it gets so emotional. Just thinking that something like that could have happened is definitely the point of the song,” Hailie Jade said on the podcast. “It’s a bit suspicious.

She continued, “But if you’re an addict or you’ve ever lost a loved one, I sympathize. I feel the same way. But it’s a great video. I enjoy watching clips from when we were younger, even ‘Mockingbird.’ But I can’t hear it anymore without crying. Like as I get older, I can’t listen to any of the songs. But I enjoy watching that clip, just not in that context.”
