ESPN’s “Around the Horn” Features Familiar Faces Before Final Show
ESPN has announced that the popular show “Around the Horn” will conclude with its last episode on May 23. In a recent episode, Jemele Hill made a notable appearance, reminding viewers of her time at ESPN before her departure in 2018.
Hill was let go from the network during her first term, influenced by her candid social media comments about then-President Donald Trump and his supporters. As the show aired, host Tony Leary and other panelists revisited some of her old remarks, leading to a playful exchange. “I was a little nervous when you pulled up our tweets. Hey, I’m just back, guy!” she joked.
The episode also welcomed back Kate Fagan, who also left ESPN in 2018. Fagan spoke passionately about the rights of transgender youth in sports, emphasizing that everyone deserves the same opportunities to play. “Think about your own experiences in sports. The community, the joy, and those high-fives—it’s all about belonging,” she remarked. It was a heartfelt message, underscoring that sports transcend gender.
Despite existing laws, transgender children are often faced with challenges in participating in sports. In fact, an executive order signed by Trump in February restricts participation based on biological sex.
Just after the cancellation announcement, former regular panelist Jay Mariotti suggested that the show’s end was unavoidable, reflecting on his own departure from the spotlight.
With only 11 episodes remaining, the show, which has been on air for over two decades, is nearing its conclusion.
