Jen Psaki rips into Democrats for keeping Ocasio-Cortez out of leadership position

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki accused Democrats of neglecting Democratic Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York for a crucial committee position.

Ocasio-Cortez announced a campaign to win the top Democratic seat on the important House Oversight Committee, but the party worked with establishment politicians rather than backing the inflammatory left. Psaki said on the show that the decision shows Democrats have not learned their lessons from their defeat in the 2024 election.

“This is one of the few committees in Congress that actually gets national attention.”

“House Democrats missed what I consider a huge opportunity, passing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee,” Psaki explained. “Instead, they chose Congressman Gerry Connolly.” [Va.]a much older member supported by Speaker Emeritus Nancy Pelosi. ”

Paschi has great respect for Pelosi, but said Democrats need to elevate younger members like Ocasio-Cortez.

“Why is that important?” she asked. “This is one of the few committees in Congress that actually generates national attention and media coverage. [Rep.] jamie raskin [D-Md.]it became an important platform for countering Republican misinformation. ”

Psaki went on to call Ocasio-Cortez one of the “most media-savvy members of Congress.”

“We felt this was a clear opportunity to apply some of the lessons that should have been learned from the November election, right?” she concluded.

Ocasio-Cortez lost her oversight committee campaign by a vote of 131 to 84.

Psaki has previously tried to use her show to provoke debate over election results. She argued on her show a week after the election that Democrats shouldn't shy away from supporting LGBTQ+ policies, but should instead lean in to further champion the movement.

“Look, it's good to reflect,” Psaki said of the transgender debate. “But if it were actually an issue in thousands of schools across the country, it would be worth discussing. But the sample of transgender girls playing is incredibly small. in sports.”
