Jennie Garth Opens Up About Personal Struggles in New Memoir
Jennie Garth, the beloved ’90s star known for her role as Kelly Taylor on ‘Beverly Hills, 90210,’ has shared some deeply personal experiences in her memoir. The actress revealed that she once mixed alcohol and pills during a tough time, which resulted in serious health issues.
In interviews, Garth has discussed how the combination of fame, relationship turmoil, and a miscarriage led her into a dark period. Struggling with depression and anxiety, she explained that it took time in rehab for her to find her way back to stability. Her memoir, titled “I Choose Me: Chasing Joy, Finding Purpose, and Embracing Reinvention,” provides insight into her journey toward sobriety.
Garth reflected on the pressures of early fame, highlighting how the demands to conform to Hollywood norms negatively impacted her. “I’m my own worst critic,” she admitted, explaining how she felt overwhelmed by the need to lose weight and underwent procedures like breast implants in response to that pressure.
“I have been hurting, grieving, and struggling for years, and it has affected every aspect of my life,” she noted, particularly addressing the aftermath of her divorce from actor Peter Facinelli in 2012 after 17 years of marriage.
In a pivotal moment, Garth found herself in crisis after ingesting too many pills. She described the distress of waking up with a bloated stomach, which led to her entering rehab at Canyon Ranch. During her time there, she learned vital lessons about self-care and the importance of addressing her pain.
“I realized that my light was really dimming. I wasn’t putting off the good vibes,” she reflected, emphasizing that her sadness and anger were taking a toll on her physical and mental well-being.
Through her journey of self-discovery and healing, Garth recounted reaching a turning point where she decided to release the burdens that were affecting her relationships and self-esteem. “Then a weird switch flipped,” she wrote, expressing a newfound resolve to move forward.
Her memoir is set for release on April 14th, and Garth stated, “It took a while, but I’m finally in a place where I can make my own choices.” Readers can look forward to a candid exploration of her struggles and triumphs.
