Jennifer Aniston Discusses Her Decision Not to Adopt
Despite facing challenges with fertility treatments, Jennifer Aniston has decided against adoption, expressing her desire to have “her own DNA in a little human.”
In a recent episode of the “Armchair Expert” podcast, co-host Monica Padman engaged with Aniston about her journey with egg freezing. After Padman shared her uncertainty about wanting children, she inquired whether Aniston had found “peace” in her decision not to become a mother.
“It’s so peaceful,” Aniston replied, reflecting on her situation. “But there’s something out of my control about it. There’s literally nothing I can do about it.”
Aniston stated firmly, “Even though they say, ‘But you can adopt,’ I don’t want to adopt. I want my DNA in a little human. That’s the only way. Selfishly or not, whatever it is, I’ve wanted it.”
She continued, “Whatever the plan was, it just wasn’t in the plan,” sharing how emotional it feels when discussions about motherhood come to an end.
Criticism has often followed Aniston regarding her choice to remain childless. Recently, she addressed how her busy Hollywood career played a role in her family planning decisions. “They didn’t know my story and what I went through over the last 20 years trying to find my family because I don’t go out and tell them about my medical struggles,” she noted, highlighting that her personal battles were not public knowledge.
“But there comes a point when I can’t stop hearing it: I’m not going to have a baby, I’m not going to have a family, because I’m selfish and a workaholic,” she reflected.
Aniston admitted that the rumors surrounding her choices had affected her because, well, she’s human. “We’re all human, so I thought, ‘What the heck?’” she said.
Back in 2022, she publicly shared that she had undergone IVF treatment while married to Brad Pitt. She expressed gratitude for her challenging experiences, stating, “If I hadn’t had that experience, I wouldn’t have been able to become the person I was meant to be.”
More recently, she revealed, “I was giving it my all. If someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Good luck,’ I would have given anything.” Now, she feels like the opportunity has passed, saying, “It’s no longer, ‘Can I do it? Maybe, maybe, just maybe.’ You don’t have to think about it anymore.”
Having been married to Pitt from 2000 to 2005 and then to Justin Theroux from 2015 to 2017, Aniston is now dating Jim Curtis.
