Jennifer Love Hewitt Talks About Her Relationship with Sarah Michelle Gellar
Jennifer Love Hewitt recently opened up about her long-standing silence with Sarah Michelle Gellar, saying they haven’t spoken in nearly 30 years. This comes amid speculation regarding their relationship after starring together in “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
In an interview with Vulture, the 46-year-old actress brushed off rumors of a feud with the 48-year-old Gellar. She mentioned that they haven’t had any contact since the release of the film back when she was just 18 years old.
“Honestly, I don’t even know what happened or how the situation evolved,” Hewitt remarked about the supposed conflict with Gellar, who is known for her role in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.”
She added, “It’s strange that people always feel the need to create drama between us. Why can’t we just support each other instead?”
Hewitt, who played Julie James in the horror film and reprised her role in a 1998 sequel, made her return with a fourth installment, “I Know You’ve Left.” Meanwhile, Gellar’s husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., also reprises his role in the latest sequel.
Interestingly, neither actress featured in the 2006 standalone sequel or the 2022 TV series. Although they starred alongside each other in the original film, their characters were not a part of subsequent projects. Gellar made a cameo in the latest installment, while Hewitt attended the premiere.
Before the event, Hewitt expressed hope that she would get to see Gellar at the premiere. However, after the event, many noticed that the two did not appear together on the red carpet. Gellar later acknowledged on social media that they didn’t meet, but she praised Hewitt and her other co-stars.
“To those asking, I missed the amazing @JenniferLoveHewitt at the premiere. I was inside with my kids when it all went down,” Gellar shared on Instagram. “Unfortunately, JLH didn’t come to the after-party either. It’s all a bit chaotic.” She emphasized that just because they didn’t see each other doesn’t mean there’s any bad blood.
The speculation around their relationship intensified in December 2024, when Gellar was approached by a reporter regarding Hewitt’s participation in the sequel. Gellar’s abrupt response sparked further rumors, though she later clarified her reaction was due to a non-disclosure agreement.
Meanwhile, Hewitt confirmed her involvement in the sequel through an Instagram post. However, Gellar stirred more controversy by tagging various cast members but excluding Hewitt, leading some fans to think there might be underlying issues.
Amid all this, it seems both actresses are navigating their respective careers and lives, leaving fans to wonder about their past and what the future may hold for them.
