Jennifer Love Hewitt and Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Communication Gap
Jennifer Love Hewitt has shared that she and Sarah Michelle Gellar haven’t really been in contact over the summer. The 46-year-old actress mentioned that despite starring together in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” way back in 1997, they haven’t spoken much lately.
“Honestly, I don’t even know what the speculation is about or how it started,” Hewitt remarked, addressing rumors of a possible feud with Gellar. “It’s strange how people want to pit us against each other. Why do we always have to be on opposite sides?”
Hewitt further clarified, “I’ve never even seen Sarah. The last time was probably when we were 18 at the film’s premiere. It’s amusing to me, really. I have no idea where these rumors come from.”
In the original version of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” Hewitt played Julie James while Gellar’s character, Helen, meets a tragic fate.
Meanwhile, Gellar has also dealt with rumors of tension, particularly after they didn’t take photos together at the recent sequel’s premiere. She had explained to her followers that she missed seeing Hewitt during press events because she was inside with her kids. “Unfortunately, JLH didn’t come to the afterparty,” she noted.
Gellar later expressed on social media about the challenge of trying to capture memories on the red carpet with old friends. “Sadly, I didn’t get pictures with most of the cast, but that doesn’t change how wonderful they all are,” she continued.
At the premiere, Gellar was spotted taking photos with her husband and fellow actor Seth Green.
As for the film, “I Know What I Did Last Summer” came out in 1997, focusing on four friends who unintentionally cause a man’s death, only to find themselves pursued by a killer a year later. In 1998, a sequel followed, and now, both Hewitt and Prinze Jr. are back in the franchise for the latest installment.
Hewitt also shared her surprise about the ongoing speculation regarding her relationship with Gellar during a podcast. “I thought we were just having a good time, and then I see all this chatter about a supposed feud,” she said. “I was just a kid back then. I didn’t have any say in the script.”
Recently, Gellar was questioned about her involvement in the sequel during an interview, to which she responded curtly before later sharing her excitement to be part of the project online, even humorously noting her slip regarding a non-disclosure agreement.
Gellar cherishes the original film, recalling the time they walked the red carpet together in Hollywood, alongside her co-stars and Prinze Jr.
Now, the duo steps back into the horror franchise’s realm, which has landmark moments in its storyline. The latest film features a new cast alongside the originals, referring to the group’s efforts to keep their dark secrets hidden after a tragic accident.
In discussing the film, Prinze Jr. expressed his pride in the new cast and their performance, noting, “They’ve earned the baton,” and remarked on how their skills surpassed expectations.
Despite the rumors and misunderstandings, the connection forged through the original film seems to remain significant for both Hewitt and Gellar, highlighting the complexities of relationships in Hollywood.
