Jenny McCarthy says bullies lit her hair on fire in Catholic school

“It was very scary because they were waiting for me after school,” McCarthy said. “And at one point they set my hair on fire.”

“I was so embarrassed that I bottled it all up,” she added. “I thought my mother would think I was a loser. And I’m not a person who likes sympathy. I didn’t like it when people pitied me because I felt like I could handle anything.” I wasn’t…I wasn’t.”

Ultimately, McCarthy said the experience taught her resilience, which ultimately helped her navigate the ins and outs of Hollywood.

However, she admitted that she wore “armor” as a means of protecting herself. It wasn’t until she met her husband Donnie Wahlberg that she was able to find her peace.

“Everything in my life changed once I knew Donnie was a safe place,” she said. “Maybe that’s why I’m at peace now, because I was able to take off the armor and comfort that girl by saying, ‘You’re in a safe place now.’

Last month, as the couple prepared to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary, McCarthy opened up about her relationship with Wahlberg.
