Jerry Jones of the Cowboys doubts Micah Parsons will participate in Week 1

Uncertainty Surrounds Micah Parsons’ Participation in Week One

Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Dallas Cowboys, expressed uncertainty about whether star pass rusher Micah Parsons will be available for the season opener. The Cowboys are set to face their division rivals, the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, on September 4th.

This week, when pressed about Parsons’ status, Jones replied, “No, it’s definitely not,” indicating that he couldn’t confirm Parsons’ place in the lineup after a joint practice with the Los Angeles Rams. He noted that the majority of the decision lies with Parsons himself. “I mean, how can you know for sure? No, but I’m urgent,” Jones added, implying a sense of immediacy regarding the situation.

Jones mentioned he hasn’t been in touch with Parsons since the player made a trade request, but he emphasized that the urgency in resolving the matter is significant. Despite the trade demands, Jones praised Parsons, highlighting his immense talent and intelligence.

Parsons continues to attend practice and team meetings, though his contract negotiations remain unresolved. Recently, he publicly shared a trading request, citing the lack of communication from the Cowboys regarding contract extensions over the past two offseasons.

In a social media post, Parsons conveyed, “Yes, I wanted to be here. I did everything I could to show that I wanted to wear a Cowboys star on my helmet. It has always meant the world to me to play in front of the best fans in the sport. Unfortunately, I don’t want to be here anymore.” The emotional weight of those words is palpable.

Parsons added, “Even without an agent, I don’t want to risk being sidelined and having the narrative twisted by the media.” His frustrations are understandable, given his standout status. If he can’t play in Week 1, it would be a notable setback for the Cowboys’ defense, as Parsons has been a formidable force since being drafted twelfth overall in 2021. He’s made the Pro Bowl each season, racking up 52.5 sacks, 172 solo tackles, and nine forced fumbles in his 63 games played. Last season alone, he achieved 12 sacks in just 13 games.
