Jerry Jones working on ‘substantive’ Cowboys trades ahead of NFL draft

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters Tuesday that there might be something big on his sleeve.

Jones spoke with the media ahead of Thursday’s NFL Draft, saying he was working on a “pretty substantial deal” but did not provide details.

“We’re looking at two things that could happen before or after the draft. Two pretty substantial deals. We’re working on it today,” Jones said. According to Fort Worth’s Star Telegram.

The Cowboys tend to trade during the draft, and Dallas dates back to 1989, when Jones took over the team, but it is unclear whether the potential deals Jones has been working on will occur before, after, or within the draft.

Dallas has already been active this offseason, making two deals, acquiring linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr. from the Titans and cornerback Kyle Ellam from the Bills.

Jones and the Cowboys have more than $37 million in cap space and are somewhat quiet in free agency, running backs Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, defensive end Dante Fowler Jr. and defensive tackle Solo Mon Thomas.

One deal that is not expected to happen is the deal that the Cowboys will land Broncos wide receiver Cortland Sutton.

Jane Slater of the NFL Network After the concept was circling on social media, it was called “fake news,” then threw cold water at the idea.
